The interest of participating in Cup No 1 is also rapidly increasing among teams from different parts of Denmark. Last year a team from Elite Bornholm – the Danish island in the Baltic Sea – had their first appearance in the tournament, and this year the number of teams from Bornholm has doubled with two boys teams in the classes B13 and B14.
“Last year we had a fantastic debut! We had the pleasure of playing against the boys from Liverpool FC – my personal and many players favorite club – in the preliminary round. Afterwards we won the B-playoff and had a really nice stay “on top of Denmark”,” says manager Lars Albæk, who has his roots in the Northern part of Jutland himself before moving to Bornholm.
Elite Bornholm is a joint venture project representing a broad range of clubs from the island with the purpose of offering talented players, both boys and girls, possibilities to develop their football skills and play against clubs from other parts of Denmark but also international teams.
“For us the Cup No 1 is the perfect solution. The pitches, the accommodation-schools and the events are all joint together in a rather small area, and we don’t have to use a lot of time on transportation from one match-field to another. Another advantage is the international atmosphere with music and singing from many parts of the world – and naturally the holiday atmosphere at famous The Palm Beach,” says Lars Albæk.
